Sanjay Dutt’s Policegiri Movie Review & Rating
Policegiri is a Bollywood action comedy movie, produced by T. P. Aggarwal & directed by K S Ravikumarand. The film features Sanjay Dutt, Prachi Desai and Prakash Raj in lead roles.
Before stepping in to watch the movie, Policegiri, I was prepared for some loud action, intense drama and not-so romantic scenes.
The first turn off for me was the casting, Prachi Desai opposite Sanjay Dutt! Why would anyone think of pairing these both? There comes a scene when Sanjay Dutt and Prachi Desai are just about to kiss each other and the audience goes hooting. We hear someone say, “No this cannot happen.” Who thought of getting this father-daughter duo opposite each other?” and many more such comments followed. But thank God, the kiss did not happen.
Policegiri, remake of a 10 year old Tamil movie ‘Saamy’, is about DCP Rudra Aditya Devraj (Sanjay Dutt) who makes an entry washing his face with beer. He after many transfers has been transferred to Nagapuram to end the corruption there. His patent dialogue in the movie is “I am a combo of a cop and a goonda. Buy one get one free,”
He is a public servant in the true sense, after moving to Nagapuram Sanjay Dutt strives hard to serve the public. He does that in his own capacity and there comes a time you wish every public servant was like him.
He comes across the mafia don Nagori Subramaniam (Prakash Raj), who tries to control the DCP by bribing him and he deals with the DCP in DCP’s language saying , “I am a combo of a bhikari and a shikari. Buy one get one free.”
What happens there after is what we have seen many a times off late. Action, action and more action.
Sanjay Dutt: As DCP Rudra Aditya Devraj is surely trying too hard to prove his mettle. At 50, we don’t expect Sanju Baba to perform stunts like flying in the air and jumping from buildings. It all looked too un-realistic on screen.
Sanjay Dutt could hardly move his shoulders while dancing which made the dance sequence look not-so-good onscreen.
Prachi Desai: As Seher, looks beautiful. She has nothing much to do, but she still manages her part well. With two senior actors already sharing the screen, the damsel was a mere eye candy.
Prakash Raj: As a music-loving rogue Nagori, this man definitely steels the show. Brilliant acting, timing, he does the don’s role perfectly. His talent could have been used more, but then that would have been unfair to Sanjay Dutt.
Others: Om Puri as Sanjay Dutt’s senior, Murli Sharma and Mukesh Tiwari as Nagori’s men and Rajpal Yadav as a one-sided lover do their parts fairly well in the movie.
There are chunks that will make you laugh but they are too small. A combo of ‘Dabanng’, ‘Wanted’, ‘Singham’, ‘Rowdy Rathore’;’Policegiri’ has nothing new to offer to its audience.
Buzz Rating: 2/5
